In the 1982 movie Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan, the genetically engineered tyrant Khan sought revenge against his enemy Captain Kirk. Khan activated the Genesis Device in a nebula that would destroy the Enterprise. Spock was able to make the Enterprise escape an explosion, but at the cost of his own life.
