It’s Friday again and this means an interview with an awesome graphic designer. this time we sit for a chat with Yannis, a graphic designer from Design by Humans. Share and comment this interview and Yanmos will choose three people to win a free t-shirt from his collection.
How would you introduce yourself and your art to people who may not be familiar with you?
Well, my name is Yannis and I live and work in a beautiful city in northern Greece. I started drawing in the early of 2007. It is more like a passion or hobby than a real job. I always loved simple and crisp vector designs with a minimal feeling, easy to understand and memorize.
What got you interested in t-shirt design and how long have you been doing it?
I don’t really have a specific favorite subject. On the other hand if someone sees my work it is very easy to guess that the environment and issues about the nature awareness is something that really intrigues me.
What was your first tee design that you created? What was the first design you sold? Show us some pictures!
I don’t remember the first design I made but I do remember that “Earth tree” is definitely one of the very first.
What does it take to be a good designer? Do you recommend going to school to learn art and graphic design?
I studied fashion and fabric design here in Greece and in Denmark back in the early ’90s. In graphic design I am totally self-taught. But my answer to your question is absolutely yes.
When you aren’t designing t-shirts, what are you up to?
Just like anyone else, I like listening to music a lot, gardening, driving around and hanging out with friends and playing with my dog!
Do you have any wisdom you’ve learned along the way you’d like to share with other aspiring artists?
Τhe only thing I can think of and say is that the power of the internet nowadays makes things a lot easier in promoting/marketing and in learning new design techniques every day. But it’s up to how honest and settled you are with what you do as an artist and human being through constant research and personal development.
