19 Teen Titan Shirts to Prepare You for The Judas Contract

by on Feb 10, 2017

One of the most versatile superhero teams out there is the Teen Titans. I don’t mean in strength and abilities, but in style and substance. They have been ultra serious, lighthearted and completely off the wall. This handful of junior heroes has had quite an exciting history, and they are about to take their next step into adulthood with the release of their first full-length animated video, The Judas Contract.

From the newly released trailer, there’s no doubt that this is a far cry from the fun and silly Teen Titans Go! It’s a much darker take on the Teen Titans, not only in story, but also in color tone. It is based on one of their most well-known story lines, written by Marv Wolfman and illustrated by George Perez, known by most as the Teen Titan comic wonder team.

The Teen Titans were introduced in the late 1960s. It was basically the kiddie table of superheroes led by Robin and featuring Kid Flash and Aqua Lad. The book was taken much more seriously in the 1980s when Wolfman and Perez took over and launched the New Teen Titans. This aged the kiddies into young adulthood, and introduced Raven, Cyborg and Starfire. Eventually, Beast Boy would join the group. The line-up changed occasionally, and little Robin grew up into Nightwing.

There is no doubt that the teams’ popularity exploded when it was turned into an animated series in the 2000’s for The Cartoon Network. This series adapted many of the Wolfman and Perez story lines, including The Judas Contract, which introduced Deadshot. It was very anime styled and certainly aimed toward a younger viewers. I’m not sure if it obtained “cult” status, but it was a bit of a phenomena and lasted 5 seasons.

Ironically they were going to make The Judas Contract movie after the original series ended, but Warner Brothers did not feel Teen Titans were popular enough. Yet their little comedic animated sketches for DC Nation became so popular, they got their own show: Teen Titans Go! And now, ten years after the first one was nixed, the feature length film is a go!
